Dangerous Game
The embryonic team went on a pre-training walk yesterday. We wanted to see how far we could go and what sort of pace we walk at naturally. However, we nearly didn’t make it after a vicious attack by a crazy pheasant! Yes, really.
It was just sort of there when we parked and we assumed it would run a mile when we opened the doors, like every other pheasant in the world would. But no, this scarily unpleasant pheasant started squawking and flying at us, beak and claws first. This was such bizarre behaviour for a pheasant that we were sufficiently perturbed to retire to the car and drive round the corner to a different parking spot. Even that didn’t shake it off… it ran alongside us the whole length of the track, only stopping when we could pick up enough speed to pull clear… I could see it in the rearview mirror, watching us drive away. Freaky.
Anyway, back to the stats. We walked 12.5 miles in 3 hours and 52 minutes. This is 3.23 miles per hour. Good news, that's a perfect pace for the 24 hour target time... assuming of course we get a team together. Still playing the waiting game about that.
